Alexander was born on July 6, 1997, in Perm, where he began his professional career. Platunov played in the PARMY system for eight years and won the Russian Cup with the team in the 2018/19 season, becoming the top scorer of the final match.
In February 2024, Platunov took part in the VTB United League All-Star Game. Ahead of the 2024/25 season, the guard transferred to UNICS, with whom he became a bronze medalist of the VTB United League.
